The 2022-23 NHL season is here! Today we kick things off with our first news, standings and opinion update for the year.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we will be updating you on the standings, as well as some big news from around the NHL.  If the playoffs started today, the Presidents’ Trophy would go to the Vegas Golden Knights with six points, what a season. Let’s dive in with how things are shaking up so far.

October NHL News, Standings, and Opinion (Monday 10/17)

Atlantic Division Standings:

Boston Bruins 2-0-0 4 Pts

Detroit Red Wings 2-0-0 4 Pts

Florida Panthers 2-0-0 4 Pts

Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1-0 4 Pts

Buffalo Sabres 1-1-0 2 Pts

Tampa Bay Lightning 1-2-0 2 Pts

Montreal Canadiens 1-2-0 2 Pts

Ottawa Senators 0-2-0 0 Pts

Division News:

One big piece of news out of the Atlantic has to be how good the Detroit Red Wings have been. They are undefeated through the first two games of the season but sustained a big loss when it was announced that Tyler Bertuzzi would be out 4 to 6 weeks.

Metropolitan Division Standings:

Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0-0 4 Pts

Philadelphia Flyers 2-0-0 4 Pts

Carolina Hurricanes 2-0-0 4 Pts

New York Rangers 2-1-0 4 Pts

New York Islanders 1-1-0 2 Pts

Washington Capitals 1-2-0 2 Pts

New Jersey Devils 0-2-0 0 Pts

Columbus Blue Jackets 0-3-0 0 Pts

Division News:

One big piece of news out of the Metro has to be how good the Penguins have been. Sidney Crosby has had three-point nights in back-to-back games for the Penguins. The core three guys, Malkin, Crosby and Letang, have been great to start the year in Pittsburgh, and they recently made history.

Central Division Standings:

Dallas Stars 2-0-0 4 Pts

Nashville Predators 2-2-0 4 Pts

Winnipeg Jets 1-0-0 2 Pts

St. Louis Blues 1-0-0 2 Pts

Colorado Avalanche 1-1-0 2 Pts

Chicago Blackhawks 1-2-0 2 Pts

Minnesota Wild 0-2-0 0 Pts

Arizona Coyotes 0-2-0 0 Pts

Division News:

The Central division has five teams really pushing for the playoffs this season, but the big news to start the year has to be Vladimir Tarasenko scoring two goals in the team’s first game. I can’t wait to watch how this season plays out in this division.

Pacific Division Standings:

Vegas Golden Knights 3-0-0 6 Pts

Calgary Flames 2-0-0 4 Pts

Seattle Kraken 1-1-1 3 Pts

Edmonton Oilers 1-1-0 2 Pts

Anaheim Ducks 1-1-0 2 Pts

Los Angeles Kings 1-2-0 2 Pts

Vancouver Canucks 0-2-0 0 Pts

San Jose Sharks 0-4-0 0 Pts

Division News:

The biggest piece of news in the Pacific Division has to be how good the Calgary Flames have been. Their moves this offseason have really paid off on the ice as the Flames look great beating two tough opponents in the Edmonton Oilers and the Colorado Avalanche.
