The Arizona Coyotes are one of the bottom teams in the NHL this year, and that is by design. The Coyotes are rebuilding to succeed down the line. One player to trade at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline to add to that future success could be Christian Fischer.

The Arizona Coyotes should consider trading Christian Fischer at the deadline.

Currently, the Arizona Coyotes have all but their own seventh-round draft pick at this upcoming draft, as well as a 2023 third-round pick from the Washington Capitals.

In later years they have more picks from other teams, including an additional five second-round picks over the course of the next few years. However, where things stand right now, the number of picks for 2023 is not really fitting for a rebuilding team like the Coyotes.

One player this team has that could be worth some value at the deadline is Christian Fischer. Fischer is tied for third on the team in points with five. He has three goals in the team’s first eight games, and he is someone who has gotten a bigger role in the past few seasons.

Fischer was drafted in the second round of the 2015 NHL draft and has spent the past seven seasons with the Coyotes playing in 326 games up to this point. This year he has become a leader on the ice and has been someone with a more forward-facing role on the team.

Despite the team being in the midst of a rebuild, Fischer has been one of the players bringing a bit more respect to the club on the ice, and he could potentially net the biggest add for the team at the deadline.

It is worth noting that Fischer scored the first two Coyotes goals inside Mullett Arena, the club’s new home for the next few seasons. Check out his first goal below:

Fischer is signed through the end of this season, at which point he will be eligible for RFA status. His current contract pays him $1,125,875, so he is an affordable option for a team looking to add some more skill and determination to their bottom six.

The Coyotes do not have a lot of options on their team to bring in draft capital and prospects this season, Fischer is arguably the best bet to get that move going. Some other notable upcoming free agents on the Coyotes include Shayne Gostisbehere, Juuso Valimaki, Troy Stecher and Nick Richie.
