Week 5 (November 6-12) for the Chicago Blackhawks saw only two games.  The Blackhawks took on the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks, both in California.  The Hawks lost to the Kings 2-1 in overtime and beat the Ducks 3-2 in regulation on Saturday night.

Petr Mrazek returned from the injured list against the Kings, and Arvid Soderblom returned against the Ducks.

Mrazek made 31 saves in an absolute thriller against the Kings.  The Hawks and Kings played in one of the most exciting overtime periods I have ever seen.  It led to the Kings walking away with the victory with only 1.4 seconds remaining in the five-minute 3-on-3 period.

On the week, the Blackhawks’ power play was only 1 for 5, which its only 20%.  Their power play currently sits at 12th in league at 23.8%. The Blackhawks’ penalty kill went 6 for 6 (100%) on the week, and their PK currently sits at 26th in the league at 74.5%.

Both the Kings and Ducks outshot the Blackhawks, but that has been a common theme this season.  The Kings outshot the Hawks 33-29, and the Ducks outshot the Hawks 41-22, giving it a weekly total of 74-51 that the Blackhawks have been outshot.

Face-offs have been a continuously strong aspect to the Blackhawks game.  They won 67.9% against the Kings and 62.9% against the Ducks.  To this point in the season, there have only been two games that the Hawks have been less than 50% in the face-off dot (10/15 vs San Jose (47.2%)  and 11/3 vs Los Angeles (39.6%)).

Once again, the Blackhawks came back from being down 2-0 and wound up winning the game.  The Ducks led 2-0 in the first period after scoring 19 seconds into the game.  This is the fourth time this season that the Blackhawks have come back from a 2-0 deficit to win a game.

Being down 2-0 is never a position a team wants to be in, but the Blackhawks don’t seem to be affected by trailing games.

Jarred Tinordi scored twice against the Anaheim Ducks, scoring first and getting the game-winner.  Before Saturday, Tinordi had two career NHL goals.  He doubled his career goals in one night.
