Here we are folks, as we are getting comfortable into the 2022/23 season. It is progressing nicely, with a majority of the teams in the league testing their wits, and the Edmonton Oilers are not short of that list.

In the past ten games, the Oilers team has had its ups and its obvious downs, going 5-5 through that run.

So, what is nagging the Oilers lineup thus far, and why can’t they seem to have more of a productive winning record, rather than a modest evenly matched record?

The past ten Edmonton Oilers games result in three takeaways.

Well, I will take you through the takeaways that the team is facing with all the misplays that they have gone through.

First Takeaway

Since this past ten-game stretch had begun against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Edmonton Oilers started off on a positive note, to say the least.

They were out-hustling their opponents very well and taking charge of the plays that were genuinely out of their hand in the first three games of this past ten-game stretch.

Scoring was not an issue at first, but the woes began when playing against the New Jersey Devils, where they fell apart.

The Oilers forwards have been scrambling to get their hands on the puck in the offensive zone, but without having that strong forecheck to their credibility.

The defense in the defensive zone is somewhat similar, not being able to gather the puck in key moments that have cost them goals and even deciding plays that have taken a toll on the team as of late.

More importantly, the Oilers are not moving the puck like they used to at the beginning of the season, with the perfect passing that they utilize, in my observation.

Second Takeaway

Evander Kane‘s injury was gruesome, and he has been a huge loss for the team, as his offensive presence and physicality are two main ingredients in their arsenal.

The slack should have been picked up thoroughly by his teammates, and better yet, they should be assisting each other in a manner that defines teamwork, which the Oilers are currently lacking.

The Edmonton Oilers are currently sitting at 7th in the Western Conference with a 9-8 record that needs to improve due to the roster they possess, including the fact that they are a very well-poised team to play against.

Third Takeaway

The special teams seem to deliver at times when this team is playing at its best; however, taking careless penalties is another issue.

Also, not scoring as much on the powerplay is getting frustrating for the fans, as the Oilers team is used to producing.

Getting the goals with their high-octane offense is getting somewhat weaker, and to be honest, the coaching is not to blame, but rather the pace of the game the Oilers players are playing.

Mainly, the Edmonton Oilers team is a tough team to play against and is a feared team in the league. With that, they need to capitalize on that statement by adding more physicality to their gameplay and producing more screens in front of the net.
