Patrice Bergeron reached an extremely impressive milestone
The Boston Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lighting on Monday night by a final score of 5-3. It was a good game for them as they now lead the entire NHL with a record of 17-2-0 for 34 standings points. Right now, they have to be considered one of the Stanley Cup favorites.
After going down 1-0 in the first period, the Bruins scored five unanswered goals. On the fourth goal scored by Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron picked up his 9th assist of the season. It was also his 1000th career point in the NHL.
That is a very impressive milestone to reach in this league. Boston’s captain joins Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane, Evgeni Malkin, Anze Kopitar, Eric Staal, and Nicklas Backstrom as the only active players to have reached that milestone.
Bergeron is going to be a first-ballot Hall of Fame player. In addition to having all these points, he is one of the best defensive forwards to ever live. That is evident with the five Selke Trophies that he has won in his career. He is also a Stanley Cup champion, which is the highlight of his career.
Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron has 1000 career NHL points now.
There are more chapters to be written for Bergeron but it is obvious that he has been one of the best players of his generation. Certainly, playing with linemates like Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak has helped keep him young, but they are also lucky to play with such a perfect center.
It is very fitting that Marchand scored the goal that Bergeron assisted at this moment. These two have been one of the best duos in the league for a long time. Now, Bergeron’s big moment came as the result of a goal that they created together.
When you look back at some of the best players from his era, he will be among them for his two-way dominance.
Being that good defensively while that good offensively isn’t easy, and it is something that only about five or six active guys have been able to do at that level year in and year out.
Now, it is going to be interesting to see where the rest of Bergeron’s career takes him. The Bruins are good enough to win the Cup, but what will happen to him after this year when his contract expires again?
One would think that he is good enough to stick around for a while. Regardless, we were lucky to watch him for all these years. He deserves every bit of recognition.
