The Buffalo Sabres aren’t necessarily a good team in the sense that they don’t win a lot, but they are incredibly entertaining. They score a lot of goals thanks to their young group that has an extremely bright future.

One of the players leading the way for them is Tage Thompson. He is freshly 25 years old and ready to light this league on fire. He started last season when he scored 38 goals in his breakout year. Then, he signed a monster contract in hopes that he can do it again.

Well, it appears that he is going to. He was already having a monster start to the 2022-23 season with 16 goals in Buffalo’s first 25 games. Well, although he was ready to blow past 38 goals, he might do it a lot quicker than we originally thought.

On Wednesday night, he scored a remarkable five goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was a big part of a 9-4 victory for the Sabres. This was one of the most sensational performances of any player so far this season.

The Buffalo Sabres are being led by a very good player in Tage Thompson.

Thompson is now up to 21 goals after this night, which is third in the NHL. He only trails Connor McDavid and Jason Robertson who are superstars in their own right. Nobody is doubting that Thompson is a star in this league now either. He will be an All-Star later this year.

Tage also had an assist on the first goal of the game so it was a six-point night for him. He is an all-around great player that Buffalo should be very excited about.

This five-goal performance tied the American-born record for a single game and the Buffalo Sabres record. It has to feel wonderful to make that kind of history in one game.

Buffalo is a very skilled team that is only going to get better. Alex Tuch, Jeff Skinner, Dylan Cozens, Rasmus Dahlin, and Jacob Bryson all collected at least one assist on a Tage Thompson goal. This team was feeling it, and they found a way to get a huge win.

Again, once this team figures out how to fix some things defensively, they will be a very good team in the Atlantic Division. You can expect Thompson to lead the way with this group. He’s now on pace for 66 goals, so we will see where he is able to go from here. It will be fun to watch.
