The New York Rangers scored back-to-back goals in seven seconds to tie the game up at 3-3 on Monday night before winning in overtime against the Devils.

Going into the second period at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers were trailing 2-1 against the New Jersey Devils thanks to goals by Nico Hischier and Dawson Mercer of the Devils and Chris Kreider of the Rangers.

At around the nine-minute mark of the second period, Jack Hughes gave the Devils a 3-1 lead, but that lead did not last long, thanks to goals by Vincent Trocheck and Kaapo Kakko.

On that second goal, K’Andre Miller did an excellent job setting up Kakko for his sixth goal of the year. The first goal was also very impressive, with Vincent Trocheck getting a great tip out in front to help redirect Adam Fox’s shot into the net.

The Devils and Rangers have played some really competitive games this season. In their previous matchup, New Jersey ended up winning 5-3 on Monday, Nov. 28. This is just their second of four matchups this season. The next game between these two teams comes on January 7, and again on March 30; both games are in New Jersey.

Both the Rangers and Devils are two of the top teams in the league right now. With their second matchup being super entertaining, including two quick goals and extra time, it will be interesting to see what could happen if they end up meeting in the playoffs.

Including their win against the Devils, the Rangers are riding a four-game win streak.

Managing to come back against the Devils and win in overtime has to be a big win for the Rangers. This has not been the start of the season that the Rangers wanted. The team has struggled, yet games like Monday, where they manage to score in seven seconds, should show that anything is possible for this team.
