The New Jersey Devils have been the turnaround team of the year in 2022. After missing the playoffs in 2021, they now look to be one of the best contenders around. They currently have a record of 21-7-2, good enough for 44 points and first in the Metropolitan Division.

So far this season, the Devils have been one of the leading teams in our power rankings, and they also have a lot of talent to get excited about at Michigan. Overall this group has been fun to watch. Yet there are a lot of players that are going to need to get extended at the end of this season.

According to CapFriendly, the Devils are projected to have over $37 million in cap space to work with for the 2023-24 season. That is a lot, but they do have a number of players to re-sign. So let’s take a quick look at all the players the Devils need to re-sign.

There are a lot of important players on this list, but I want to point out a few in particular. Jesper Bratt is having a great season with 30 points in 30 games. He is a great winger for this team and is definitely someone the Devils will want to re-sign.

Yegor Sharangovich is another player the Devils should extend. Sharangovich has 15 points this season and has become an important middle-six forward on this team with 15 points so far this season. Depth is important to win, and Sharangovich gives the Devils that depth. He has definitely come a long way since being drafted in the fifth round in 2018.

Miles Wood and Michael McLeod are two other forwards that could use extensions. Additionally, two pieces of the blue line, Graves and Severson, are without contracts.

With some really important young players potentially coming up into the NHL in the next few years, this roster could change a bit. Guys like Simon Nemec, Chase Stillman and Luke Hughes could be making the jump to the NHL sooner rather than later.

Considering how good the Devils have been this season, it is impressive to see how their roster is shaking up for the future. With so many players to re-sign and so much cap space to work with, this roster could look even better in 2023-24. Which players do you think the Devils need to re-sign as soon as possible?
