Connor McDavid continues to lead the charge for the Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers have been pretty mediocre so far this season. Through some 36 games, they sit with a record of 19-15-2, good enough for 40 points and fourth place in the Pacific Division.
In their last ten games, the Oilers are 5-3-2, most recently picking up a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. While there could be change coming to the Oilers if they do not continue to win games, one player who has been electric is captain Connor McDavid.
Connor McDavid continues to lead the charge for the Edmonton Oilers.
It seems like every season, Connor McDavid finds another level to surprise fans. This season he is first in the league in points and goals and tied for the lead league in assists. He has 31 goals, 36 assists and 67 points as of this writing. Considering the way this season has gone so far, that number is destined to change.
McDavid is pretty likely to score every night fans watch him. He is quietly on a 16-game point streak, which includes 15 goals and 17 assists, good enough for 32 points in 16 games.
His longest point streak was 17 games which he set in 2021-22. That streak was also for 32 points, so hopefully, he can keep the magic going, especially if Edmonton wants to make the playoffs.
The Edmonton Oilers and the Stanley Cup playoff picture.
Currently, the Edmonton Oilers sit in fourth place in the Pacific Division. Just making the playoffs is not going to be as easy as it used to be. The Oilers are looking at tough competition out of Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle and Calgary in their own division. Even Vancouver cannot be laughed off at this point.
In the Central, there could be four or five teams also competing for a playoff spot. Dallas, Winnipeg, Minnesota and Colorado all look like locks for the playoffs, and St. Louis is not going to give up quickly.
Edmonton needs to keep winning games, and despite what people around the league may think, Connor McDavid is still the best player to build a team around.
The Edmonton Oilers have the best player in the world in Connor McDavid. If they can find a way to bring in some more options for him and talent in general at the deadline, then there is little doubt they will be competing for the Stanley Cup again this spring.
McDavid has shown he can carry this team on his back in the past, and he is doing it again this season. Of his 36 games this season, there have been just four games so far where he has not registered at least one point, which is pretty remarkable. It will be interesting to see how the numbers stack up for the second half of the season.
