The Minnesota Wild haven’t won a Stanley Cup in franchise history yet, but they are probably in a better position now to pursue one over the next couple of years than they ever have been.

It isn’t likely to happen this year. They are good right now, but they aren’t Stanley Cup good. That is mostly because the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter contract buyouts hit their cap in a bad way this year and it cost them some good players.

The biggest they lost was Kevin Fiala who was an All-Star for the Los Angeles Kings this year. Now, they are looking to replace him in the coming years. They are so close to going from a good team to a great team.

One thing that might help them in the long term is the outstanding prospect pool that they have built. Scott Wheeler does outstanding work on the draft and prospects in general for The Athletic and he seems to love this Wild farm system.

The Minnesota Wild are in a great position as a franchise moving into this year.

For the last month or so, he has been ranking the top farms in the NHL from 32 all the way down to one. On Wednesday, he named the Minnesota Wild number one. They are one of the few good teams to have a prospect pool that high (only the second-ranked New Jersey Devils can say the same).

Why are the Wild so good on the farm? Well, Marco Rossi is their top prospect, but guys like Jesper Wallstedt and Brock Faber are making an impact as well. All of these guys are elite prospects and should be great players at the NHL level soon.

According to Wheeler, the Wild are the only team with a top prospect at every position in hockey and the most top 50 guys. That is outstanding news for Wild fans who just watched their team retool a little bit after losing in the first or second round every year.

That might be the case again this year, but they are hoping that these prospects will elevate them even further. Big things could be coming to the state of hockey over the next couple of seasons.

They were patient with Kirill Kaprizov, and he rewarded them by coming to the league and becoming one of the best players in it. With other guys like Matt Boldy, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Calen Addison in addition to others, this team is set for a long time.

Everyone in charge of things at the Minnesota Wild should be very proud of their franchise. It is in a great spot and will have chances to win the whole thing for years to come.
