It finally happened. After a long stretch this season of wondering where Patrick Kane was going to be traded, only for the presumed team to squander all hope after adding another star, Patrick Kane has been traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the New York Rangers.

As originally reported by Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are going to acquire Patrick Kane for a second and fourth-round pick in 2023 for the Blackhawks’ star. The second-round pick does have the potential to become a first if the Rangers make it to the Conference Final.

This is obviously a good deal for the Rangers, as they add a former three-time Stanley Cup Champion and make their top six that much better, but I want to spend some time talking about things from the perspective of the Blackhawks.

Go Win A Cup: A Blackhawks Reaction To The Patrick Kane Trade

There have not been a lot of great moments for the Blackhawks after winning their third Stanley Cup in six seasons back in 2015, but one great time was watching Patrick Kane play with Artemi Panarin. The two forwards always knew where the other was on the ice, and they connected for a lot of fun players, like the one below.

During their first of two seasons together, Kane put up 106 points and 46 goals. Panarin had 77 points himself that year, and it looked like the Blackhawks found that next piece of their core to win more championships with. Fast forward to the summer of 2017, and Panarin is traded to Columbus for Brandon Saad. Now, some six years later, Kane will be joining Panarin on a new team in New York.

Kane will always be a Blackhawk in my mind. I grew up as a fan watching Kane win three Stanley Cups in Chicago, and even when the rumors started becoming louder that he was going to get traded, I saw it as an opportunity to cheer him on as he chases another Stanley Cup.

Sure, the return is not that great, but something is better than nothing. Plus, getting to watch Kane play with Panarin again is also going to be fun in itself. Watching Patrick Kane play in another jersey is going to be weird. That will definitely be the case for a lot of fans out there. Kane with the Stanley Cup, on the other hand, is something that a lot of fans are used to, and it will be great to see the two reunited this summer!
