There are lots of big teams in the NHL making moves right now. The New York Rangers acquired Patrick Kane and the New Jersey Devils acquired Timo Meier which stole the headlines. However, nobody is having as good of a time as the Boston Bruins.

They came into trade season with the best record in the league by a wide margin. They are literally running away with the President’s Trophy. They would have gone into any playoff series as the definitive favorite even if they made no moves.

Well, luckily for them, they did make some moves. This already perfect team found a way to somehow get better so they will be definitive favorites even more now.

It started last week when they acquired Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals. That meant they added a very good depth-defenseman in addition to some sandpaper for their bottom six. It was a great move.

The Boston Bruins made their already perfect team even better this week.

That wasn’t enough for them though, on Thursday, they made a big trade to acquire Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings. That is an outstanding forward that can literally play on any line and that is no exaggeration. He is a poor man’s version of Brad Marchand.

Bertuzzi has been a great player with the Detroit Red Wings over the years and now he is moving on to a team where he will have a chance to make an impact in the playoffs.

In order to make room for him under the salary cap, Taylor Hall had to be moved to long-term injured reserve. In addition, Nick Foligno was placed on injured reserve as well. Neither of them has a timetable for their return but neither has ruled out surgery and being done for the year either.

It was an even bigger week than we thought for the Bruins because David Pastrnak also received his long-awaited contract extension. He is now one of the five best offensive players in the league and his salary number was in question as a result. He picked a good year to go off like this.

He is going to be making 11.25 million against the cap for the next eight years. That is a 90-million-dollar contract for one of the best in the world. It is a well-deserved pay raise.

The Bruins are just on top of the world right now. They have a lot of pressure on them to play well in the playoffs because it is Stanley Cup or bust. However, if there was a team to go in with all sorts of confidence, it is this Bruins team. They are truly amazing and somehow got better.
