Edmonton Oilers star center Connor McDavid has a chance to do something that has not been done in almost 30 years, something Sidney Crosby has not done, nor has any elite scorer in the league done recently. McDavid has the chance to score 150 points this season.

The last time this feat was accomplished was in the 1995/96 season by Pittsburgh Penguins Hall-of-Famer Mario Lemieux. That season, Lemieux had 161 points, and no player has come close since then.

McDavid has the chance to come closer than anyone when he could become the first to reach 150 points, with an outside shot at reaching Lemieux’s total. McDavid has been known to post multi-point games in his career, and he has a good shot at reaching that number.

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid is looking for historic numbers.

This season, McDavid has 54 goals and 70 assists for 124 points, which is a career-high in points for him. In his last five games, he has six goals and five assists for 11 points. His previous high in points was 123, achieved last season.

Does McDavid have the time to achieve 150 points? The Oilers only have 17 games (9 away, 8 home) left on the schedule, and McDavid needs only 26 points, which is well within range for him.

The question is, does the playoff race hinder his getting to that point total? Will opposing teams start to throw out systems to be more aggressive against him as he closes in on 150 points?

His point totals are extremely close on the road compared to his performance at home. In 33 home games, he has 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 points. In 32 away games, McDavid has 25 goals and 36 assists for 61 points.

He does just as much damage at home as he does on the road for the Edmonton Oilers.

The chance that he does achieve 150 points is in his hands and it is a realistic goal. Without a doubt, his focus should be on winning and making the playoffs. However, hockey players know each and every stat, theirs, and their opponents.

The closer McDavid gets, the more his teammates will see what he is trying to accomplish. McDavid is far too talented not to get at least 26 points in these last 17 games. However, stranger things have happened.
