The Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken will play in game one later Tuesday night. A matchup that will see the defending Stanley Cup Champions going up against a first timer in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Let’s get into breaking down this game one, piece by piece.

These two teams met three times in the regular season, where Seattle took two out of three. It’s going to be interesting to see what type of energy Seattle brings right out of the gate in this game being that it’s the franchises debut in the playoffs. Now, let’s take a look at some keys to game for both teams.

Keys to the game: Seattle

Live in the moment and keep it simple: There’s no question the Kraken are going to be full of adrenaline going into this game, but it’s how they use it will be the key. If they stick to what got them here, they are going to give the Avalanche a tough time.

The goaltending is going to have to be on point: It’s an easy thing to point out in the playoffs, but for the Kraken especially, the goaltending is going to have to be excellent to beat the Avalanche. Martin Jones and Philipp Grubauer do have a good amount of playoff experience and success, although their regular season left a bit to be desired.

Keys to the game: Colorado

Do what you do best: The Avalanche are one of the more dangerous teams in the NHL when everything is clicking. I mean, they won the central division without having their captain for the entire season. This team is so incredibly deep that as long as they stick to their game plan, they can beat almost anyone.

The secondary scoring needs to be there immediately: Guys like Evan Rodrigues, Artturi Lehkonen etc. are going to have to provide secondary scoring immediately. Makar said himself he will play in Game one, but with him being inserted right back into the lineup and taking into consideration that Mackinnon missed time this year, it would be very helpful to ease the pressure for the Avs stars.
