After an exciting game one, the Carolina Hurricanes have taken a 1-0 lead in the series. On the other side of the matchup, the New York Islanders find themselves behind and are hoping to tie it up before heading back home for games three and four. Both teams played a very stingy game and made few mistakes. They hope to continue that style of play in game two.

Keys to the Game for the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders.

Carolina Hurricanes:

Play more aggressively in the offensive zone. Although Carolina played a great game and came away with the win, they were unable to score at even strength. Not every game in the series will be the same as the first, so they need to be more aggressive with their offense.

Sometimes teams have to take chances when they are in against a team with such a tight playing style like that of the Islanders. If the Hurricanes can take some chances and open up the game a bit more, it will favor them because they are the faster team. They just need to make sure they do not over-correct and start giving New York grade-A scoring opportunities.

One of the Hurricanes power play goals came from Stefan Noesen, who has been stellar since stepping into a bigger role on the power play. Here is his goal from last night:

New York Islanders:

Special teams. Special teams were a huge factor in the first game of this series. If the Islanders had just scored on one of their four powerplay opportunities or killed one more of their penalties, they could find themselves ahead in the series.

Not only that, but they would be heading back home this Thursday with at least one win in the books already. The team played an almost perfect game at even strength and need to keep playing like that for the rest of the series.

Although some aspects of each game will be different, both of these teams should be hoping that even strength play stays similar to that of game one. As fans, we should all expect the games in this series to be as low-scoring as the first and to come down to the wire as well. This will continue to be an exciting series, no doubt.
