A controversial goal leads to Kings defeating the Oilers in Game 3
The Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers each came into Friday night’s game 3 with one win. A tied series means that the next win is huge for both clubs to get.
The Kings got off to a great start as they took a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Alex Iafallo who was the overtime hero in game number one.
Following that, the league’s leading scorer from the regular season, Connor McDavid, scored two goals (his first two of the series) to get the Oilers up by one.
McDavid’s two goals came 100 seconds apart. Those are the types of things he can do which is absolutely incredible to watch.
The Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers played a wildly entertaining game.
Well, the chaos didn’t stop there. Adrian Kempe scored just 18 seconds after Connor McDavid gave the Oilers the lead. The game was all knotted up at two after three goals were scored in just over a minute and a half.
The game remained tied at two for the rest of regulation. Overtime is where the controversy came in as a lengthy review decided the game.
Quickly into overtime, the Los Angeles Kings were awarded a power play because of a slashing call on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Alex Iafallo. The Kings made the most of it.
Trevor Moore scored the game-winner, but it was reviewed because of a potential missed high stick that should have created a stoppage prior to the goal.
The review shows the puck pop into the air and goes near the high stick of Gabe Vilardi. You can’t really tell if the puck touches his stick or not on the replay, but common sense tells you that there is a chance it did.
The video, however, was deemed to be inconclusive, and the Kings won the game in overtime by a final score of 3-2. It is an ending that is going to be debated for the rest of the series.
Now, both teams have to regroup and forget about it because what’s done is done. The Oilers need to move on and take their anger out on the next game. The Kings just need to keep chugging along.
Game four will take place on Sunday night in Los Angeles. Obviously, both teams will be incredibly motivated for different reasons. As mentioned before, this has been one of the best series of the playoffs.
