With a new season comes new changes. Aside from new additions via free agency and trades, there are small changes to the team that may go unnoticed.

This season, the Detroit Red Wings announced that some of the players throughout the organization will be sporting new numbers come the new season. Who will be changing numbers and what will those numbers be?

The Detroit Red Wings have new players with new numbers.

The Red Wings will have new numbers for current roster players Justin Holl, Alex DeBrincat, Klim Kostin, Christian Fischer, J.T. Compher, Shayne Gostisbehere, James Reimer, Daniel Sprong, and Jonatan Berggren.

Players within the organization that will have new numbers include Jared McIssac, John Lethemon, Carter Mazur, Alex Lyon, Tim Gettinger, Nolan Stevens, Brogan Rafferty, Wyatt Newpower, and Simon Edvinsson.

Here are the new numbers for those above, provided earlier this week:

3 Justin Holl

There were no reasons given for the change of numbers or what the changes mean. While training camp is still a month or so away, this organization keeps the fans interested with news about something. This news may not be major to some, but others find it interesting.

Some players may have switched because of family reasons, because that number was not available at one time, or because that was the number worn in junior hockey.

Fans will likely see some interesting numbers at training camp for the players who may be lower in the system. The Detroit Red Wings will usually start in the middle of September and go until late September or early October.

Recently, the Red Wings signed Stevens, Newpower, and McIssac to one-year, two-way contracts, meaning they will start the year in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins when the 2023/2024 season starts.
