Hockey season is so close, we can almost taste it. Then again, we have no idea what it would taste like.
Considering hockey is decisively Canadian, perhaps it tastes like maple syrup? Maybe there’s a hint of a beaver tail (which, fun fact, doesn’t actually come from beavers) thrown in there? The point is that hockey is coming.
With the new NHL season so close, some teams have started releasing their promotional schedules for the year.
Fan giveaways and free bobbleheads always tend to fill the seats and sell tickets. One team that has already filled in fans on what promotions they’ll be running is the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have an amazing giveaway this season.
The season might not have started yet but the Columbus just might have the best bobblehead of the year.
Bobbleheads are every collector’s favorite giveaway. The Columbus Blue Jackets are immortalizing a surprising painter in bobblehead form as part of a promo night this season.
Is this bobblehead of a current Blue Jacket player, a hockey legend, or maybe one of their mascots? Nope, it’s actually of the famous painter Bob Ross.
Bob Ross is famous for being an instructional painting teacher on television as well as his calm and happy demeanor.
The bobblehead isn’t free. It has to be purchased as part of a special ticket package but it will be available for the Blue Jackets October 28th game against the New York Islanders. We know what you’re thinking and yes, the bobblehead is wearing a Columbus Blue Jackets jersey.
What does Bob Ross have to do with hockey or the Blue Jackets? Apparently, the answer is absolutely nothing.
His television show “The Joy Of Painting” was broadcast in both the United States and Canada so he’s sure to have some fans north of the border.
We thought maybe he was from Ohio and the Blue Jackets were honoring a fellow resident of the Buckeye State, but no.
Ross lived most of his life in Florida. Maybe the Tampa Bay Lightning should have done this promotion but they’re too busy with pirate promotions instead.
The ironic thing is that Ross has become a cult fan favorite because of his personality which is the exact opposite of how most hockey fans feel while watching their favorite games.
Are we going to call that missed check that turned into a season-ending injury for Zach Werenski a “happy little accident”? Is a Bob Ross impersonator going to paint a “happy little Johnny Gaudreau” leaving Calgary amongst his “happy little trees” during the game?
This promotion completely came out of left field but it’s just the type of wacky, unexpected, and unique promotion that gets fans buying tickets.
Unfortunately, there will only be 500 Bob Ross bobbleheads given out as part of that special ticket package.
If you want what might be the NHL’s best promotional item this season, you better act quickly.
