The Anaheim Ducks head into the 2023-24 season hoping to take a step forward. When you finish in last place across the entire league there is only one way to go, up.

the Ducks landed the second overall pick at the 2023 NHL Draft and took Leo Carlsson with the pick. While a lot of people expected Adam Fantilli to be taken second overall, Carlsson does add a lot to the organization and could very well b ein the NHL this upcoming season.

Why Anaheim Ducks fans should be excited for the 2023-24 season

That brings me to why Ducks fans should be excited. This is a young team with a ton of talent. Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras are still going to be leading things but there is also a lot of other talented players on the roster. Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish could both be playing in the top six this upcoming season, and on the blue line Jamie Drysdale and Jackson LaCombe both should be taking big steps this upcoming season.

The Pacific Division is a tough division in the NHL right now, so it does not seem likely that this Ducks team will improve from putting up just 58 points to being a playoff team, but they could very well become a 65 point or 70 point team this season.

Another reason to get excited for the upcoming season has to do with the contracts of the Ducks star players. Troy Terry signed his massive contract extension early this month. But we are still waiting to see how much Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale will make on their new contracts with the team.

While that might not seem like something to get excited about, the Ducks have a lot of cap space to work out contracts and will be locking in two of their organizations brightest stars for years to come.

The most important reason to be excited about this upcoming season has to do with how good of a pipeline the Ducks have. From the players mentioned already, to guys like Pavel Mintyukov, Nathan Gaucher, Tristan Luneau and Jackson LaCombe, there is a lot of talent in the Ducks organization that fans should be ready to cheer on.

The Ducks will kick off the 2023-24 season in Las Vegas as the Golden Knights raise their Stanley Cup banner. That is the perfect time for the Ducks to play spoiler during a home opener.
