The most important player to watch this season for the Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres are one of the most exciting teams in the entire NHL right now. They have a great farm system with a ton of talent and were one of the closest teams to making the playoffs this past season, now it is time to turn the corner.
If the Sabres are going to make the playoffs this upcoming season, one player is going to lead that charge. Tage Thompson will be the most important player to watch this upcoming season for the Sabres.
The most important player to watch this season for the Buffalo Sabres
Tage Thompson had a really strong seasn in 2021-22 when he put up 68 points in 78 games for the Sabres. The then 24 year old scored 38 goals that season and looked like one of the best up and coming centers in the NHL.
He then followed up that strong performance with an even better season this past year. In 2022-23 Thompson registered 94 points including 47 goals in 78 games. That was well and above anyone else on the Sabres this past season.

If Buffalo is going to make the playoffs this season, Thompson is going to have to have another good year. Everyone has to take a big step forward, but it starts with Thompson.
Buffalo has a lot of players on expiring deals heading into 2023-24. Guys like Owen Power, Rasmus Dahlin, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Petyon Krebs and Casey Mittelstadt all are looking for new contracts this year.
If Buffalo is going to get everyone under the salary cap, it is going to take another amazing year from Thompson to help show he should be one of the highest paid players on the team, driving down how much other players in Buffalo can demand.
