Chicago Blackhawks fans have not had a lot of hockey news the past month to get pumped about. Since drafting Connor Bedard the only real news has been a few signings here or there and trades to surround Bedard with some talent in his rookie season. The latest rumors surrounding Patrick Kane might interest fans though.
Blackhawks fans might not like where Patrick Kane could potential sign
According to John Dietz of The Daily Herald, Kane could be interested in playing for the Detroit Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks oldest rival. The Blackhawks and Red Wings have not gotten in along for most of their histories.
The two original six teams have had some great matchups over the years, most recently when the Blackhawks won their playoff matchup in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2013. Kane potentially signing in Detroit would be the worst case scenario for Blackhawks fans, just because it is Detroit.
When the Blackhawks traded Kane to the New York Rangers, Hawks fans had no problem rooting on Kane. The Rangers and Hawks are not bitter rivals, plus Kane would be reunited with Artemi Panarin. Even though the Red Wings are in the Eastern Conference, watching Kane in a Detroit jersey would make any Blackhawks fan’s eyes twitch.
I do think Kane potentially signing with Detroit makes sense. Getting the opportunity to reunite with Alex DeBrincat, would be a good move for Kane, additionally Detroit is an up and coming team looking to turn the corner into the playoffs.
With that said, this is not a powerhouse team. The Red Wings have not made the playoffs for a long time now and Kane might prefer to play for a team that could win a championship next year, not just make the playoffs as a wild card team.
It will be interesting to see where Kane ends up playing this upcoming season. There are a lot of teams that would definitely be interested in adding the three time Stanley Cup champion, now we will just have to wait and see where he ends up going.
