Mike Babcock needed to leave the Columbus Blue Jackets
Mike Babcock was one of the most overrated coaches in his NHL career because of the loaded teams that he won with. That earned him a job with the Columbus Blue Jackets over the off-season after four years away.
Babcock was most recently the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs before getting another chance with the Blue Jackets this time around. It was mostly the way that he treated players that got him fired in Toronto so you’d think that he learned his lesson.
Well, Babcock couldn’t even make it to the preseason with the Columbus Blue Jackets because he has resigned. He should have just been outright fired but at least he isn’t with them anymore regardless of how you describe it.
He should have never been hired again but he needed to go after the most recent developments that came out about him. The Blue Jackets saved their season by getting someone truly awful out of their organization.
The Columbus Blue Jackets no longer have Mike Babcock as their head coach.
On the famous hockey podcast “Spittin Chiclets”, former NHL forward and current analyst on TNT Paul Bissonnette reported that Mike Babcock takes his player’s phones and displays some of their photos on the big screen for everybody to see.
Obviously, that caused a stir in the hockey world. The Blue Jackets and Babcock initially released a statement on the matter and it seemed like it was going to be forgotten. However, things continued to come out about this and eventually, this move to remove him was made.
In the place of Babcock is Pascal Vincent. After all of this, it is important for him to come in there and make a difference. He needs to be a player’s coach first right now and let the hockey come naturally. This is now a huge training camp for the Blue Jackets.
Don’t let their results from last year fool you either. They are adding Adam Fantilli to the group thanks to their bad season but they still have guys like Patrik Laine, Johnny Gaudreau, and Zach Werenski amongst others who should make this a very competitive team.
Now, without their now former head coach gone, the young guys coming in can thrive as long as they play good hockey. The start of their careers might have been saved because of this move.
Hopefully, Babcock never coaches in the NHL again. We don’t need people like him in the game. Hockey is for everyone and it should be kept to that kind of standard. Sometimes, how you treat people should matter.
