The Montreal Canadiens are one of the worst teams in the NHL and have been for a few years in a row now. However, they have been doing a good job of stacking up young prospects through the drafts. Their rebuild is going well but they have a lot more work to do in order to take that next step.

One of the players that they are relying on the most is Lane Hutson. They selected him with their second-round pick (62nd overall) in 2022. If that draft were redone today, he’d go in the top ten, maybe top five. Now, he is at Boston University which is a hockey team loaded with talent.

The projected number one overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Macklin Celebrini is on this team in addition to some other studs like Case McCarthy, Devin Kaplan, and Ryan Greene amongst others.

This is one of the best teams in the nation and it will be surprising if they don’t have an elite year. The Frozen Four should be on their mind all season long. They have the players needed to be one of those great teams.

The Montreal Canadiens have something special in BU defenseman Lane Hutson.

BU played their first game of the season on Saturday night. It had some ups and downs but the Terriers were able to pull out the 3-2 overtime victory over Bentley. They’d like to take care of their business with a bit more style but hockey is hard.

BU got out to a 1-0 lead early when captain and New Jersey Devils draft pick Case McCarthy scored. Celebrini scored his first NCAA goal in the game as well which gave them a 2-0 lead. Seeing him on the board this early is great news. This is a big year for him in every way.

To Bentley’s credit, they fought back and got the game time before regulation time expired. That is when Habs prospect Lane Hutson did what he does best. He scored the game-winning goal by taking a very smart shot from the blue line through traffic. BU got the win thanks to the clutch moment from one of their best players.

This year is going to be outstanding for BU as mentioned before but Canadiens fans have to be so happy with the way that Hutson is developing. He was outstanding for BU last year and now he has the potential to dominate even more.

Depending on how the season goes, he should be signed by the Montreal Canadiens just in time to play a handful of games. They won’t be a playoff team so there won’t be much pressure. Honestly, there is a world where Celebrini becomes a Canadien as well. Montreal will certainly be in the mix for that lottery.

If you’re looking for more hockey to watch all year long, BU is one of the top college teams to keep in mind. Montreal Canadiens fans may enjoy it a tad bit more than everybody else. With that said, the Celebrini sweepstakes should be fun as well!

This Buffalo Sabres prospect deserves to make the team. light. Related Story
