Blue Jackets News: Adam Fantilli has his first career NHL point
The Columbus Blue Jackets had themselves a good off-season. They made a lot of improvements to their forward group and their defense. One of the biggest additions to their group as a whole was Adam Fantilli who they made the number three overall pick.
Fantilli was projected to be the number two pick behind Connor Bedard all year long but the Anaheim Ducks decided to take Leo Carlsson instead. Now, Fantilli is going to spend his entire career trying to prove that passing on him was a mistake.
On Thursday night, the Blue Jackets played their first game of the season and it came against the Philadelphia Flyers. That meant that Fantilli made his NHL debut in this home game. It was very cool to see him finally take the ice after all these months of anticipation.
He got off to a very good start in his career as it took him no less than his first game to collect his first career NHL point. It came in the form of an assist on a goal scored by Jake Bean. Obviously, this is a moment that Fantilli will remember forever.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are well on their way with Adam Fantilli there.
Unfortunately, the Flyers ended up winning the game by a final score of 4-2. It was a tough game as a team for Columbus as they let Philly take it but Fantilli has to be happy with his first point. Now, it is going to be about getting him that first career goal.
The Blue Jackets may have lost but the future outlook of this team is bright. A lot of people think that this organization has one of the best farms in the league, with some really good players at the NHL level. Fantilli is going to be a big part of it all.
There is an extra bad thing (besides the loss) that came from this game. Zach Werenski, who missed most of last year, is going back on injured reserve. Coming up for him is their other prized prospect David Jiricek. We’ll see how this impacts them going into the next portion of the season.
Columbus will be back in action on Saturday night when they take on the New York Rangers. It should be so much fun to watch Fantilli’s progression all year long. We’ll see how long it takes before he scores his first NHL goal but it shouldn’t be too far away. Exciting times are coming in Columbus.
