Devils News: Jack Hughes was the first star of the Frozen Frenzy
The NHL Frozen Frenzy was a big deal on Tuesday night. All 32 teams were on the ice with all 16 games having a different start time. Everyone had an interesting storyline to follow. That includes Jack Hughes and the New Jersey Devils who were up in Quebec to take on the Montreal Canadiens.
The Devils kind of had another slow start in this one. They are working on fixing their play in the first period still as Montreal took a 1-0 lead. Eventually, Nico Hischier tied the game but it was waved off which killed the momentum.
Eventually, the Devils got the game tied for real thanks to a play by Alexander Holtz. From there, they took over the game. Specifically, Jack Hughes asserted his dominance. He ended up with four assists as the Devils took it by a final score of 5-2.
Nico Hischier ended up getting another one that actually counted and he needed it badly. Hughes assisted on that one in addition to all three goals in a Tyler Toffoli hat trick. All of these guys are looking good now but Hughes was the star once again.
The New Jersey Devils need Jack Hughes to keep dominating like this.
Make that 14 points through his first five games this season. That is the most in Devils franchise history and the most in NHL history since Mario Lemieux in the 90s. This is an incredible pace for the former number-one overall pick.
Jack Hughes was the best player in any game on Tuesday night’s Frozen Frenzy and he didn’t even score a goal. It was incredible to watch from the moment he stepped on the ice. The NHL has a ton of bright young talent and Hughes is right in the middle of it.
Hughes is now tied with Dylan Larkin for the league lead in points but he has played in two fewer games. He has a chance to stack on his lead on Wednesday night when the New Jersey Devils take on the Washington Capitals. That should be fun to watch.
The Frozen Frenzy was absolutely awesome and Jack Hughes was the number one star of the night. It will be so fun to see what he does as the season moves along.
