NHL Morning Update: Sharks lose big, neck guards and more news

It was a busy night around the NHL. With a lot of games to discuss and news let’s dive right in with today’s NHL Morning Update!

NHL Morning Update: Scores from around the NHL

Los Angeles Kings 3 – Ottawa Senators 2

The Senators rallied late, but the Kings held on to a 3-2 win picking up another two points and keeping their undefeated record on the road intact.

Florida Panthers 2 – Detroit Red Wings 0

Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves during the Panthers shutout victory over the Red Wings. The Panthers goaltender has posted a .913 save percentage through his first eight games played.

New York Rangers 2 – Carolina Hurricanes 1

The Rangers came away with a big two points against a division rival in Carolina. With the win, the Rangers improve to 8-2-0, they have had the best start out of all the Metro teams by far.

New York Islanders 3 – Washington Capitals 0

Alex Ovechkin had just three shots on goal during this game. He has just two goals in nine games and definitely seems to be struggling at finding the back of the net. Also worth pointing out Ryan Pulock scored a goal for the Islanders, Pulock really does have an impressive shot. 

Columbus Blue Jackets 4 – Tampa Bay Lightning 2

The Blue Jackets got a much needed win scoring three goals in the third period to complete the comeback against the Lightning. With their latest loss, the Lightning are winless on the road going 0-3-1 up to this point.

Boston Bruins 3 – Toronto Maple Leafs 2 (SO)

This was a fun game on Thursday night between the Bruins and Maple Leafs. Seeing Tyler Bertuzzi face off against his old team was also exciting, there definitely were a few funny moments.

New Jersey Devils 5 – Minnesota Wild 3

The Devils improve to 6-2-1 on the season and beat a Minnesota Wild team that is better than their record shows.

Dallas Stars 4 – Edmonton Oilers 3

The Edmonton Oilers lose another game. The pressure is definitely on in Edmonton.

Arizona Coyotes 3 – Montreal Canadiens 2

The Coyotes win a close fought game with the Montreal Canadiens. Honestly this Coyotes team is pretty competitive and could make some noise in the Central Division.

Vegas Golden Knights 5 – Winnipeg Jets 2

Vegas keeps the good times going beating the Winnipeg Jets at home 5-2.

Seattle Kraken 4 – Nashville Predators 2

The Seattle Kraken won a big home game against the Predators on Thursday night. Seattle has struggled to start the season so this is definitely a much needed win.

Vancouver Canucks 10 – San Jose Sharks 1

The Canucks are one of the best teams in the NHL right now with a record of 7-2-1, additionally the San Jose Sharks are dominating the tank game having just one point in their first ten games.

NHL Morning Update: Neck Guards starting to surface around the league.

T.J. Oshie wore a neck guard on Thursday during the Capitals matchup with the Islanders. Additionally, some players on the Penguins and Jets have started practicing with them on. Some minor leagues have already made neck guards mandatory like the WHL, so chances are more players will start wearing them in the future.

After a busy night, there are just two games on the schedule for Friday, including a rematch from a few nights ago.

Philadelphia Flyers at Buffalo Sabres 7 PM ET

New Jersey Devils at St. Louis Blues 8 PM ET
