For a long time, the Boston Bruins had a star in Milan Lucic. He was one of the best power forwards in the league during the prime of his career. He loved to score big goals, be a wrecking ball out there, and make big plays when the games mattered the most.
Following a few tough years, however, the Bruins made a few tough decisions that led to trading Lucic away. He had stints with the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames along the way.
Over the summer, he signed a deal with the Boston Bruins to come back and (likely) finish his career with the team that started it all for him.
On Saturday, the Bruins announced that Milan Lucic will be taking a leave of absence from the organization. It is happening because of some things involving domestic violence. This is an incident that took place on Friday night.
The Boston Bruins announced that Milan Lucic will be taking a leave of absence
There are a couple of people within the organization who commented on this but nothing was really said other than the Lucic family has their support.
Lucic has been on long-term IR for a few weeks now with an injury to his ankle. He has been taking longer to get back than originally anticipated. He has played in four games and has two assists in those games.
At 35, Lucic isn’t a dominant force out there offensively but nobody wants to mess with him or any of his teammates with him around. It doesn’t sound like he is going to be back any time soon though with some of these things going on around him.
This is a very serious matter and the Bruins are going to handle it with care. This team has a “family-like vibe” to it and they have to make sure that this gets handled the right way.
On the ice, they are one of the best teams in the league once again. Last year, they set an NHL record for wins and points. They look like that same team again despite all of the changes that they have gone through. Their next game will come on Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens.
