The Chicago Blackhawks came into Friday’s action on a long losing streak. They needed someone to step up big and lead the way so that they could get back on track. It didn’t matter who it was as long as everyone around that person did their job when it mattered most.
Friday’s game took place against the wildly talented Toronto Maple Leafs. This Toronto roster is loaded with talent and can beat anybody anytime. With players like William Nylander, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares in the mix, they are a dangerous group.
Toronto had a 3-1 lead at one point in the second period. They were getting some depth scoring from players you don’t always expect it from to have that lead. Jason Dickinson scored the Blackhawks goal so they received some depth offense as well.
Dickinson wasn’t done though. He scored two more times to complete the hat trick and get the game tied at three. Sometimes, the least likely sources have these incredible games and this was one of those times.
Jason Dickinson and the Blackhawks had a great game on Friday afternoon
This is not a bad player by any means but you’re not betting on a Dickinson goal often let alone three of them. If anything, he is showing some of the elite teams exactly why they should trade for him. He could make a Cup run in someone’s bottom six.
In overtime, Connor Bedard did some dancing around the zone before putting a very nice shot on goal. The puck ended up bouncing into the air before landing where Kevin Korchinski could sweep it into the net. His second career goal was the overtime game-winning goal.
The overtime period in this one before Korchinski ended the game was one of the best you’ll see this season between any two teams. A lot of defense and strategy has been implemented into the once chaotic 3 -on-3 format.
However, nothing like that would have been possible without a depth forward in Jason Dickinson helping them get there. It is good to see players like this step up and take charge every now and again. With Taylor Hall and Corey Perry missing for different reasons, this team needs leaders.
Dickinson and the Hawks are now off until Sunday when they will host the St. Louis Blues at the United Center. It should be a great game as we’ll see how the Hawks can carry this momentum forward.
Rightfully, he was the first star of the game was Dickinson. His play on this night, and for this season, deserves to be complimented.
