The NHL has made changes to the All-Star Game in the past when they didn’t like how things were trending. Well, they announced that they are going to be making changes again ahead of the 2024 NHL All-Star Game that will take place in Toronto, Ontario.

For the last handful of years, each division took at least one player from each team and built a squad for the 3-on-3 tournament. It was a tournament-style competition to determine which division was the winner of the All-Star Game.

Now it is going to be a three-day event instead of two. On February 1st, 2024, the league will have “NHL All-Star Thursday”. There are a few things that will happen on this day. First, there will be a player draft where four captains paired with a celebrity co-captain will pick teams.

The league will also announce the NHL Alumni Man of the Year, honor the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs there in Toronto, and then the PWHL will showcase itself in the 3-on-3 game played to cap off the evening. It all sounds so wonderful.

The NHL is making some much-needed changes to the All-Star Game for 2024

The NHL used to have a draft of All-Stars and it was always the best part of the weekend. You might remember when Team Foligno vs Team Toews was the deal back in 2015. It was incredible to watch and now we might get more of that again in 2024.

The fact that the PWHL gets some shine is amazing as well. Some of the best female hockey players in the world are going to play in an incredible setting in front of those fans in Toronto. This is big news for fans of the sport.

The next day, Friday, will be the Skills Competition. On Saturday, as expected, will be the actual All-Star Game. This should end up being a great weekend celebrating the incredible game of hockey. As we get closer, we’ll start to see the vote for players to fill out ASG rosters which should be fun as well.

Hockey is in a great spot in terms of talent and personality compared to years past so this is a chance to show it off in a big way. Guys like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Hughes, Auston Matthews, and Connor Bedard amongst others should put on a show.

With it being in Toronto, there is a lot of good that could come from this change. Hopefully, it ends up being as exciting as it seems.
