After helping to goaltend Canada to their first World Juniors medal in three years, Carter George will have the chance to contend for a deep OHL postseason run.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Owen Sound Attack were trading George to the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds. In exchange for the Los Angeles Kings prospect, Owen Sound is acquiring seven draft picks: Sault Ste Marie's third-round pick in 2026, Owen Sound's old second-round pick in the 2027 draft, Oshawa's 2027 fourth-rounder, Sault Ste Marie's second and third-round picks in 2028, in addition to the Greyhounds' second and fourth-round pick in 2029.
Despite a strong start to the year, Owen Sound has experienced a significant slump in recent weeks. The Attack have won just one of their last ten games, while also losing seven of them in regulation. They've recently been overtaken in the Western Conference standings by the London Knights, who have won six of their last ten. And despite Sault Ste Marie's recent cold streak, which saw them lose three straight before their 6-2 win against Sudbury, the Greyhounds have a six point lead on Owen Sound for fifth in the Western Conference.
At the World Juniors, George has established himself as one of the tournament's bigger names. In 2025, he posted a .936 save percentage and just 1.76 goals against per game. Despite his goals against average and his save percentage taking a significant hit in 2026 (he would post a 3.25 goals against average and a .869 save percentage in the 2026 tournament), he was still able to bring home four wins over the course of the tournament, which was second to Sweden's Love Harenstam.
At the OHL level, George has arguably been one of the league's better netminders. To this point, George has a 57-55-17 record as a starting goaltender, a .908 save percentage, and a goals against average of 3.22.
The next game for the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds is on Friday, January 9th, when they play host to the OHL's best team, the Ottawa 67s.
