Beckett Sennecke's new NHL career is quickly shifting from "surprise pick" to "rookie sensation." The Canadian forward, who was not on the Anaheim Ducks' roster for the 2024-25 season, is now establishing himself as the league's top first-year player, leading all rookies in goals and total points.
Before the season, the Ducks placed Sennecke on the second line along with Mason McTavish and Cutter Gauthier, giving him an opportunity to succeed and maintain his position in the roster, and in the NHL.

"Maintain" is now an understatement for the rookie. As of December 15, 2025, with 33 games played, Sennecke leads the rookie scoring race with 27 points. A tie for first in goals with 10, sharing the top spot with Kapanen of the Canadiens, and second for assists with 17. The most goals he’s scored in a game so far is 2 against the Winnipeg Jets, also carrying 2 points with him after.
Last December 9, 2025, Sennecke’s skills were on full display at the Ducks’ game against the Penguins with the clock winding down in the third period, Sennecke delivered a game-tying goal with just 0.1 seconds left, forcing overtime. The Ducks successfully secured the win in the shootout with 4-3.
Beckett Sennecke, who was named the Second Star of the night, admitted he wasn't paying attention to the frantic final moments.
“I wasn’t really keeping track of the time,” Sennecke told Wes Crosby, an NHL Independent Correspondent. “I saw it go in. So, I wasn’t even thinking about the time. And then it was at, like... what, 0.1 or something like that? Perfect.”
Sennecke became the seventh NHL rookie to score a game-tying goal in the final second of regulation.
The Toronto native's impressive skill set has quickly included him into the Calder Memorial Trophy discussion for the league's top rookie. His consistent production has placed him at the top of the rankings for rookies.
However, the competition is following closely behind him with:
- Matthew Schaefer of the New York Islanders (23 points, 9 goals, 14 assists in 33 games), the No. 1 pick in the 2025 Draft, is considered by many analysts and fans to be the frontrunner.
- Ivan Demidov of the Montreal Canadiens (25 points, 7 goals, 18 assists in 32 games) Demidov is behind Sennecke in points and leads all rookies in assists.
Sennecke was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks as No. 3 in the 2024 NHL Draft- which surprised the league, and Sennecke himself.
Coming from Oshawa Generals, he entered the Ducks’ official roster this year with 36 goals and 50 assists with 86 points, standing in the lead for the Generals in the 2024-25 season.
