Okay, Boston fans, what in the world was that? Hey, everyone has a bad game every now and again, but you mean to tell me that you allowed not one but two hat tricks? I mean, what is this, the Twilight Zone?
Hey, the Buffalo Sabres have been arguably the worst team in the Eastern Conference, and just as everyone has a rough game occasionally, even the worst teams will get it together and play sound hockey for one night. But how do you, a playoff contender, allow two hat tricks?
I mean, the Sabres haven’t accomplished this since 2008. Back then, AI as we know it today was still a pipe dream, I was a junior in high school who often slept in class or mapped out my next workout for sixth-period weight training, and the Blue and Gold was actually a relevant hockey team.
Man, have times changed. But to add insult to injury, this feat hadn’t been accomplished all season. I mean, yeah, if the Sabres played a team that wasn’t entrenched in playoff contention, that’s one thing. But vs. the Bruins? Come on.
What is going on with the Boston Bruins, and how can they be fixed?
While I just labeled the Bruins as playoff contenders, they’re clearly not the team they were last year or the season before. In both instances, they either won or contended for the Presidents’ Trophy, but this season has been nothing short of disarray despite the respectable points total.
Remember yesterday when I said Brad Marchand wouldn’t be finishing the season in a Bruins uniform? Yeah, that’s slowly turning into a reality because if this team ain’t championship-caliber and if that realistically remains the case as the trade deadline approaches, why even do this?
Why keep being that team who, again, despite the respectable points total, is disaster-prone more often than they need to be? Overall, this may be an above-average team, but from where the Bruins are coming from, that’s not a compliment.
If I labeled the lowly Buffalo Sabres ‘above average,’ that’s one thing, considering how poorly they’ve played since 2010-11. But the Bruins have been one of the model franchises throughout most of the same time frame, and at this point, they’re a shell of what they were.
Nope, I’ve been ticky-tacky on Boston all season, but you can’t let a bad hockey team put up seven goals against you, in which two players scored six of those seven times. The Bruins need to undertake a serious retooling project and it needs to start as March 7th approaches.
