Despite abysmal season, the Oshawa Generals seem to be ending it on a fun note

After making it to the J. Ross Robertson Final in 2025, the 2025-26 Oshawa Generals didn't exactly make good on the standard set by their 2024-25 counterparts. But recent wins have given the team some confidence after a poor start to the season and made the season a little more bearable for the organization and its fans.

With just four games left in the Oshawa Generals' 2025-26 OHL season, it's safe to say that their season could have gone a lot better.

With 64 of 68 games in the books, the Generals are in dead last in the OHL with only 39 points in the standings; it's worth noting that they are two points back of the Erie Otters, who are in last in the Western Conference. 43 of Oshawa's 46 losses came in regulation, while the Generals are one of four teams who have yet to crack 20 wins on the season. In terms of individual statistics, the Generals are third-last in goals scored, fifth-last in goals against, fifth-last in power play percentage, and seventh-last on the penalty kill.

But despite all of the struggles the team has gone through this season, there could still be a little bit of fun surrounding the last few weeks of their season. Much of that is due to the fact that the Generals have played a handful of title contenders over the past few games and that they play the Barrie Colts, Ottawa 67's (twice), and Peterborough Petes before the end of their regular season schedule.

It's not just the end of their schedule where this opportunity can be seen to present itself; the Generals have also capitalized on several recent encounters with top playoff contenders.

On February 13th, the Generals dominated the Peterborough Petes by a score of 8-4. That game saw the Generals take an early 1-0 lead, however the Petes would level the score midway through the period. However, towards the end of the first, the Generals would blow the game wide open, scoring three goals in three-and-a-half minutes of play. The second period would see more of the same from Oshawa as the Generals would score twice during the frame to extend their advantage to 6-1, while the third period saw the Petes draw one goal closer but ultimately lose by four.

Almost two weeks later, the Generals would once again beat a playoff contender, this time it was the Owen Sound Attack, who were going through a significant slump at the time of the game. After forcing the Attack to overtime, Generals defenseman Lucas Moore scored a highlight-reel goal to steal the third point up for grabs and give Oshawa the win.

To start the month of March, Oshawa grabbed a 4-1 win over the Guelph Storm, who have recently been looking to secure sixth-place in the Western Conference. Despite going down 1-0 in the first period, Oshawa was able to pull away during the final two periods of the game, scoring four unanswered goals and keeping the shot count relatively close.

Four days later, the Generals would upset the North Bay Battalion in what was a back-and-forth game. Oshawa would grab the early 1-0 lead after scoring in the opening two minutes of the game, however North Bay would take the lead for themselves by the middle of the period, tying the game two minutes after Oshawa's first goal before taking the 2-1 lead at the 11:50 mark. Oshawa would tie the game just before the break, scoring with 45 seconds left in the first to make the score 2-2. After going down 3-2 in the second, Oshawa would score two goals during the third period's first half and eventually go on to win the game by a 4-3 score.

On March 12th, just under one month since their February 13th win over Peterborough, the Generals would once again upset the Petes, this time in their own arena. Despite trailing well into the second period, Oshawa would end the frame tied before scoring two additional unanswered goals to take the 3-1 lead by the 3:32 mark of the third period. Peterborough would get one goal back but Oshawa would hold on to secure their second-straight win against the Petes.

Though there's a very decent chance that the Generals don't win their final four games of the season, any win would more than certainly give Oshawa an additional hook to hang their hat on heading into the offseason. Three of those games will be at Oshawa's Tribute Communities Centre, meaning that there should be some extra motivation for the Generals to win one more game and give their fans something to look forward to in 2026-27.
