The Montreal Canadians have had incredible talent between the pipes in their history. Jacques Plante, Patrick Roy, and Carey Price are just to name a few but Montreal may have the next elite goaltender on their roster. In fact, they have two netminders who may make history before their time is done. Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler have bright futures as they are both somthing special. Could the Canadians have the best young tandem in the league today with Dobes and Fowler?

Dobes, Fowler are proven winners

Both Dobes and Fowler have won at every level they have played and is one reason Montreal is high on their potential. Dobes played with Ohio State University and recorded 42 wins in 2 seasons. He then spent time with the Laval Rocket, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Canadians. In Laval, he posted 33 wins in 65 games and now has 19 wins in 36 NHL games. The fifth-round pick of Montreal in 2020 has been exceptional in his time with the Canadians.

Fowler took a similar path to Dobes. Fowler played 74 games with Boston College and racked up 57 wins. The 69th pick in the 2023 NHL Draft by Montreal then headed to Laval and posted 12 wins in only 18 games. The 21-year-old now has a record of 3-1-2 in six NHL games. He is expected to be the starter for years to come.

What does the future hold for Dobes, Fowler?

If the tandem stays Fowler and Dobes this season could be the youngest tandem for Montreal since Charlie Hodge and Jacques Plante. They both have loads of talent and have proven they can play in the NHL. With a low supply of goaltending depth, Fowler and Dobes could be the duo for the next 15 years.

We do not know the plan for Montreal but one would have to guess that Fowler and Dobes are the tandem going forward and Samuel Monteambeault could be out with many teams looking for goaltending help. One thing that could shock some Canadians fans is that both young goaltenders are waiver exempt and could be sent down any time.

With these two, the future of the Canadians why woudln't Montreal keep them together as long as possible? This team is young and could easily build around Dobes and Fowler. Montreal will go as far as they take them and the future in Montreal is bright with these two. These are the best two goaltenders Montreal has had in their system in decades not counting Carey Price. If Dobes and Fowler play to their potential the city of Montreal could see Lord Stanley sooner than later.
