By now if you don’t know who the Kelce brothers are you’ve been living under a rock. Jason Kelce is a former center for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL while his brother Travis currently plays at the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Also Travis is dating some singer named Taylor Swift, as you might have heard. Both also have their own podcast “New Heights” and have become two of the most recognizable figures in pop culture.
The older and retired from the gridiron Jason decided to lace up his skates this past weekend. First Coast News shared photos of the now ESPN analyst showed him partaking in a men’s league game at the Community First Igloo in Jacksonville, Florida. Kelce was in town to cover the Monday Night Football matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and his brother’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Kelce, like his younger brother, played high school hockey in Cleveland, Ohio and was pretty good at it. He even has his own page on Elite Prospects. His senior year saw him score 21 goals and 15 assists for 36 points in 27 games on Cleveland Heights high School “High A” team. Not much was reported on the men’s league game, although a thread on Reddit mentions he picked up an assist and plays well for “a giant”.
Brady and Matthew Tkachuk once appeared their podcast during which Jason mentioned the physicality of his hockey playing days. That episode heavily discussed last season’s Four Nations Face-Off where both brothers were a member of Team USA. Another episode featured Jason discussing his friendship with Philadelphia Flyers players during his own playing days in Philadelphia.
Jacksonville does have a professional hockey team with the Jacksonville icemen. They are the current ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and led the league in attendance by drawing an overage of over 9200 fans per game. Fellow former NFL player Tim Tebow owns part of that team, along with other ECHL team, through an ownership interest in Zawyer Sports group. The Kelce’s media empire hasn’t included sports team ownership yet, but maybe his impromptu beer league cameo will convince Kelce to follow in Tebow’s footsteps.
