Today, January 12, the Colorado Avalanche brought back the legendary Québec Nordiques jerseys for their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This special event marked the first time these two iconic looks have faced off in 31 years, with their last meeting dating all the way back to March 26, 1994.
The Québec Nordiques were a professional ice hockey team based in Québec City. The franchise was relocated to Denver in May 1995, and was renamed and now more known as the Colorado Avalanche.
After moving from Québec and becoming the Avalanche, the team stayed strong and won the Stanley Cup in their very first year in Denver in 1996. They won it again in 2001 and 2022. During their first eight years in Denver, they finished first in their division every single season—part of a nine-year winning streak that is one of the longest in NHL history.
The iconic Québec Nordiques jerseys were back on ice tonight, January 12, 2026, to to celebrate their 30th season in Denver and honor the team's historical French-Canadian heritage.
