The 2024 NHL Draft is upon us. Dreams are going to come true for many young men who have dedicated their lives to hockey. Teams around the league are also taking big steps toward their goals as well.

Earlier in the year, the San Jose Sharks won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery so they will make the first overall pick. The Chicago Blackhawks won the next lottery so they will have that second overall pick.

This draft is not as deep as it was in 2023 but there are some great players at the top. Beyond that, teams need to find a gem and develop them well. Over the years, we’ll find who made the right decisions at this particular event.

There are a lot of ways that this can end up. This is a mock draft of how the first round may go in the 2024 NHL Draft:

The San Jose Sharks will select Macklin Celebrini with the 1st overall pick

1. SJS - Macklin Celebrini, C, Boston University

Macklin Celebrini was incredible for the Chicago Steel and Boston University over the last two years. He quickly established himself as the number one guy for 2024 and that hasn’t changed.

The Sharks will certainly select Celebrini and begin building around him. They already have other good young players in the organization but they have a long way to go before they are a winning team.

Pairing Celebrini with a guy like Will Smith (4th overall in 2023) should be great for San Jose. It is fun to think about how he will fit in that organization that is starving for some star power after many years of being great before this current rebuild.

This will be the first time that the San Jose Sharks franchise will make the first overall pick in the NHL Draft. It’s an exciting time for sure and they’re getting a great player in Celebrini.

Picks 2-10

There is some good talent going in the to 10 of the NHL Draft

2. CHI - Artyom Levshunov, D, Michigan State

The Chicago Blackhawks select Artyom Levshunov as the second overall pick. One year after taking Connor Bedard, they add a pillar to their blue line.

3. ANA - Zeev Buium, D, Denver

With the third overall pick, the Anaheim Ducks select Zeev Buium. After trading Jamie Drysdale last season, they could use a young offensive defenseman in the system.

4. CBJ - Ivan Demidov, F, St. Petersburg

The Columbus Blue Jackets select Ivan Demidov with the fourth overall pick. Getting a player with this much skill is great for that organization going forward.

5. MTL - Cayden Lindstrom, F, Medicine Hat

Cayden Lindstrom is the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The Montreal Canadiens need depth everywhere but adding a forward like this could help their top-six long term.

6. UTAH - Zayne Parekh, D, Saginaw

Utah is going to make its first-ever draft pick 6th overall this year. With that pick in this mock, they select RD Zayne Parekh. They need help on defense and this pick could do it for them.

7. OTT - Sam Dickinson, D London

Sam Dickinson is the selection at 7th overall for the Ottawa Senators. This franchise must start to turn a corner and Dickinson might be able to help them with that.

8. SEA - Anton Silayev, D, Torpedo

Anton Silayev is a big defenseman being drafted by the Seattle Kraken at 8th overall. He will eventually be a big part of their defense.

9. CGY - Tij Iginla, F, Kelowna

At pick number nine, the Calgary Flames make a pick that will make fans so happy. They select Tij Iginla who is the son of Hall of Famer and Flames great Jarome Iginla. Tij deserves to be drafted this high on his own. He is a great sniper and will make an impact at the NHL level.

10. NJD - Berkly Catton, F, Spokane

The New Jersey Devils round out the top ten by selecting Berkly Catton. They need another top forward like this in their sytem. His stats in the WHL were video game type numbers and New Jersey could use him on Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier's line in a few years.

Picks 11-20

The teens are where a few teams could end up having some great success

11. SJS - Cole Eiserman, F, USNTDP

The San Jose Sharks traded up again to have the 11th overall pick. They will take Cole Eiserman who is considered by many to be the best pure goal scorer in the draft.

12. PHI - Konsta Helenius, F, Jukurit

Konsta Helenius is the pick for the Philadelphia Flyers with pick number 12. They have a lot of good wingers and defensemen to be excited about in the coming years but adding to their center depth with Helenius is a great idea.

13. MIN - Carter Yakemchuk, D, Calgary

The Minnesota Wild could use a little bit of everything. They select Carter Yakemchuk to add depth to their organization in terms of defense.

14. BUF - Beckett Sennecke, RW, Oshawa

The Buffalo Sabres select Beckett Sennecke with the 14th overall pick. If he develops properly, the Sabres could be adding another good young forward to the mix.

15. DET - Adam Jiricek, D, HC Pizen

The Red Wings select Adam Jiricek with the 15th pick. His brother David plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets which should help elevate this Michigan-Ohio rivalry.

16. STL - Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, F, Mora IK

The St. Louis Blues make a great pick here with Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. He could end up being one of the top forwards in the draft.

17. WSH - Trevor Connelly, F, Tri-City

With the 17th overall pick in the draft, the Washington Capitals select Trevor Connelly. Who knows, maybe he assists on "the goal". You know which goal.

18. CHI - Michael Hage, F, Chicago

Michael Hage is going to Michigan next year after a great career with the Chicago Steele. Being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks 18th overall would certainly be a dream come true for him.

19. VGK - Stian Solberg, D, Valerenga

The Vegas Golden Knights wisely decide to continue adding to their organization's defense. Stian Solberg is their guy at 19.

20. NYI - Liam Greentree, F, Windsor

The New York Islanders add some great skill to their franchise with the selection of Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires.

Picks 21-32

There are diamonds in the rough to consider late in the 1st round

21. LAK - Jett Luchanko, C, Guelph

Jett Luchanko would fit right in with the Los Angeles Kings if he proves worthy of being an NHL player. That is why he's selected here at 21.

22. NSH - Igor Chernyshov, LW, MHK Dynamo Moskva

The Nashville Predators are known for drafting defensemen well but they need some scoring in the long-term.. They take a chance on Igor Chernyshov here.

23. TOR - Sacha Boisvert, C, Muskegon

The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to have to make some changes soon. Drafting Sacha Boisvert (who is headed to the University of North Dakota) will help them with that transition.

24. COL - Andrew Basha, LW, Medicine Hat

The Colorado Avalanche have been very successful with developing first round picks. Andrew Basha of Medicine Hat would love to be taken there.

25. BOS - Cole Beaudoin, C, Barrie

The Boston Bruins will look for immediate help at the center-ice position but they might as well add some depth to the organization for the future. They do that with Cole Beaudoin at 25.

26. MTL - Cole Hutson, D, USNTDP

The Montreal Canadiens add Cole Hutson at 26. Of course, his brother Lane Hutson is expected to be one of the team's best defensemen for a long time. Adding the brother would add extra jump to both.

27. CAR - EJ Emery, D, USNTDP

EJ Emery, a defenseman, is the pick for the Carolina Hurricanes. They develop this position well which is important since they will be losing a few guys soon.

28. CGY - Nikita Artamonov, F, Torpedo

The Calgary Flames are in a full blown rebuild now. Nikita Artamonov is the pick for them at 28th overall. They can take their time with development now.

29. DAL - Emil Hemming, RW, TPS

The Dallas Stars turn every first and second round pick into gold. That would make Emil Hemming happy to go there 29th overall.

30. NYR - Ryder Ritchie, RW, Prince Albert

The New York Rangers better start hitting on their first round picks otherwise their window of contention won't last long. Ryder Ritchie is their latest attempt at pick 30.

31. ANA - Terik Parascak, RW, Prince George

The Anaheim Ducks use this selection given to them by the Edmonton Oilers to select Terik Parascak out of Prince George.

32. PHI - Charlie Elick, RD, Brandon

The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers gave this pick to the Philadelphia Flyers and they will never regret it. With the pick, the Flyers take Charlie Elick out of Brandon.
