3 teams that should be trying to trade for Alexander Wennberg
The Seattle Kraken may be trying to trade Alexander Wennberg soon.
The Seattle Kraken appears to be a seller at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. They are 26-23-11 right now which is only good for 63 points. They trail the Nashville Predators (the final wild card spot) by 9 points.
On Monday, Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol announced that Alexander Wennberg would not be available on Monday night against the Calgary Flames for trade-related reasons.
That means there has to be a deal being worked out. The identity of the team trying to get him is unknown. There could be more than one team interested which is another good reason to hold him out of games until he is moved.
There are a few teams that would make a good fit for him. These are the three that could be the best:
The Boston Bruins are a great fit for a forward that could help them
The Boston Bruins need help down the middle. They could consider making a trade with the Seattle Kraken to land Alexander Wennberg. He is a good center that may help them down the stretch.
Boston is certainly going to be in the playoffs but they have some holes in their lineup. Without Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, some obvious holes needed filling.
Wennberg has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 60 games played. He isn't a star or anything like that but he is a bottom-six forward that could boost up some other Bruins players.
If they were to make a deal like this, they'd still probably love to add another big-time center via a trade. With Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha in the mix, they could all of a sudden have a deep group of centers if they are smart.
The Colorado Avalanche could use a depth piece like Alex Wennberg
The Colorado Avalanche have plenty of superstars. Guys like Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Cale Makar amongst others are always ready to play hard.
They have shown that they are capable of winning a lot of games this season. They are in a tight three team race for the Central Division with the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars but they are sure to be a playoff team once again.
Once the playoffs begin, they will be a legit threat to come out of the west. They won the Stanley Cup back in 2022 and a lot of that winning-experience is still there.
A guy like Wennberg would be great for them in their quest to win it for the second time in three years. It wouldn't be surprising at all if they are one of the teams in on him.
The New York Rangers are looking to add some forward depth
The New York Rangers are one of the best teams in the Metropolitan Division. They are looking to make a deep run once again but this time, the hope is to get over the hump.
Adding a depth piece like Alexander Wennberg would be just what the doctor ordered for them. With stars like Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider getting older, they should be all in.
Wennberg would be able to go to that team, fit right into their bottom six, and win some games for them. He has a lot to offer and the Rangers could use that type of depth heading into the playoffs.
Last season, they made the big splashes for guys like Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin. They ended up losing in the first round. Now, they might look to make smaller/smarter moves.
We'll see how long it takes for Wennberg's camp and the Seattle Kraken to get a deal done. One of these teams makes a lot of sense. No matter what, you can probably expect it to be one of the playoff teams.
