The New Jersey Devils have had some people in and out of the lineup this season. There are injuries and off-the-ice things that have forced their hand a little bit as a hockey club.
One person who might be able to help them is very familiar with the organization. That player is Anaheim Ducks forward Adam Henrique.
The Devils drafted Henrique in the 3rd round (82nd overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft. He was a part of some pretty big moments in a New Jersey sweater.
That includes the overtime game-winning goal of the 2012 Eastern Conference Final. The play defeated the New York Rangers and sent the Devils to the Stanley Cup Final.
The New Jersey Devils had some really good times with Adam Henrique
In 2017, Henrique was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. He has played there in Southern California ever since. That includes a few good playoff years with them as well.
Now, the Ducks are rebuilding and have been for a handful of years. Henrique is 33 years old and only has the rest of this season remaining on his deal. The Ducks are very likely to move him for an asset.
A playoff contender would love to add a player like Henrique for depth. In 48 games so far this season, he has 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points. He isn't a star player but he will provide a little extra for someone.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet claims that the Devils (amongst other teams) have Henrique on their radar. He believes that they have checked in on him and that he'd be a great fit.
Henrique would be a great fit. He could play center or wing. He is also a good defensive forward who chips in a lot offensively. There is no downside to adding him to this group.
He is also a beloved figure in New Jersey Devils history and well-liked around the league. It is a perfect fit in every way.
The Devils need to come back from the break healthy and ready to go. If they don't string together some wins, they might not even be buyers at the deadline.
However, this team has the talent to be elite but it has to come together at the right time. Henrique can help with that.
