All-Star Thursday: The PWHL Showcase was incredible to watch
The PWHL Showcase was incredible to watch in Toronto.
All-Star Thursday started with the NHL All-Star Player Draft. Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, and Nathan MacKinnon picked their teams and are now ready for the big weekend.
That was followed up by a celebration of the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs. That Leafs squad is the last one to win the Stanley Cup for Toronto where the event is taking place.
The main event, however, was the best part of the evening. That was the 3-on-3 PWHL Showcase Game. All of the best female players from the new league came together for this all-star extravaganza.
Team Kloss took on Team King and it was spectacular. These women do know how to put on a show.
Team Kloss and Team King made the 3 on 3 PWHL Showcase an amazing game
Ella Shelton got the party started when she scored the first goal of the game for Team King. Shelton scored the first-ever goal in PWHL history and now she has the first-ever goal in PWHL All-Star history.
Team King's lead didn't last very long though as Alex Carpenter tied the game. It was a quick response for Team Kloss.
Later on, Jocelyne Larocque scored to give Team Kloss the 2-1 lead. She found herself on a breakaway and didn't miss with her incredible top-shelf shot.
Just before the first half ended, Marie-Philip Poulin made an incredible play to find Savannah Harmon for the tap-in goal. Poilin has one of the greatest hockey minds in the history of the sport and it was on full display with this goal.
It was also on display with the next goal when she made another brilliant pass to Harmon who didn't miss her chance to score her second of the game. Not long after that, the PWHL Ottawa star scored her hat trick goal which gave Team Kloss a 4-2 lead.
It is always nice to get a natural hat trick from one of your players when you're down a goal. Later in the game, Team Kloss captain Kendall Coyne Schofield netted one to make it 5-2.
Team King captain Brianne Jenner responded with a goal of her own but it was too little too late. Team Kloss held the score of 5-3 for the victory.
It was an awesome match to showcase hockey. These are the types of events that can get new fans from across the world to play the beautiful game.
People need to be watching the PWHL. This league is onto something. Some incredible players are playing some outstanding hockey. Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, New York, Boston, and Minnesota are the markets right now but there will be more soon.
Between the Olympics and events like these, little girls may want to try hockey because of their favorite players. That is amazing and the NHL is doing a good job to try and promote it by having it as a part of this weekend. Hopefully, it all continues to grow and more people love hockey.
