Blackhawks vs Oilers: The "Connor Bowl" lived up to all of the hype
The Chicago Blackhawks were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers.
The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 on Tuesday night at Rogers Place. It was not a typical regular season game though as this one had tons of hype coming in.
This game became known as the "Connor Bowl" because it was the first time that Connor Bedard and Connor McDavid were on the ice at the same time.
Bedard often draws comparisons to McDavid because of the whole "generational talent" thing. Their skill sets are a tad bit different but they both create tons of offense.
Usually, these types of matchups don't live up to the hype. It would have been very typical for each team's fourth line to score a couple of goals and for the final score to be 2-1.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers played a special game
This was a special one though as both guys were great. Connor Bedard scored on his second shift of the game. His 12th of the season put his incredible shot on display and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Oilers scored four unanswered goals to reach that 4-1 final. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Sam Gagner, Leon Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman all scored for Edmonton.
Connor McDavid assisted on the goals scored by Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman. Both times saw McDavid make the final pass that led to the goal-scorer tucking it in.
The Oilers are now winners of 8 in a row. After a horrific start to the season that saw their head coach fired, they are firmly back on track. They aren't in a playoff position yet but that will come in short order if they keep winning.
As for the Hawks, they are not a team with high expectations. They are interested in developing Connor Bedard while having another high draft pick. At 9-18-1, they currently sit with the worst record in the NHL.
They weren't terrible in this game. They mostly skated with the Oilers which made it hard for them to expand on the lead. It was about as good of a road game as you can expect from this young team but they don't have the firepower to win a game like that. They eventually will.
Hockey fans were the real winners of this game. Each Connor put their best skill on display and it was incredible to watch. Their next matchup will come on January 9th at the United Center.
