The 2024 NHL Draft Lottery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, and with the draft one lucky team in the team will get the opportunity to land the first overall pick.

The NHL Draft Lottery will help determine the order of the first 16 picks in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The teams with the fewest points in the league will have the best chance to draft first overall.

Breaking down the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery odds.

San Jose Sharks 18.5%
Chicago Blackhawks 13.5%
Anaheim Ducks 11.5%
Columbus Blue Jackets 9.5%

Montreal Canadiens 8.5%
Utah 7.5%
Ottawa Senators 6.5%
Seattle Kraken 6.0%

Calgary Flames 5.0%
New Jersey Devils 3.5%
Buffalo Sabres 3.0%
Philadelphia Flyers 2.5%

Minnesota Wild 2.0%
Pittsburgh Penguins* 1.5%
Detroit Red Wings 0.5%
St. Louis Blues 0.5%

The Penguins traded their 2024 First Round pick in August 2023 to San Jose. If Pittsburgh’s 2024 1st-round pick becomes a top 10 pick from the Lottery, Pittsburgh will have the option to transfer its 2025 1st-round pick to San Jose instead of its 2024 1st-round pick

The Sharks have the best chance of landing the top pick, with 18.5 percent chance of winning the lottery for finishing last in the league. The Blackhawks have the second best odds followed up by the Ducks.

Those top three teams might sound familiar. Last season the Anahaim Ducks had the best chance to win the lottery, followed by the Sharks and Blackhawks. Chicago ended up winning the lottery leapfrogging both teams to draft Connor Bedard.

While this draft might not have a Bedard type prospect, Macklin Celebrini is a great center that can definitely turn into someone great in the NHL. There are plenty of talented options for all of these teams to consider so the lottery will definitely help shake up the league.

While every fanbase would rather be cheering on their team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the NHL Draft Lottery might be one of the biggest days of the offseason for all 16 teams that missed the postseason. It will be interesting to see how things play out.
