There have been a lot of rumors surrounding Elias Pettersson this season. A lot of them were negative for Vancouver Canucks fans as some thought he was headed for another team soon.
However, that is not going to be the case. On Saturday, his brand new contract extension became official. He has agreed to an eight-year deal worth $92.8 million. That is an average annual value of $11.6 million.
For what he brings to the table, this is a very good contract for both sides. Pettersson is one of the best players in the league. He is rich forever and the Canucks got him at a very fair price based on the market for players as productive as he is.
At the time of his signing, he had 29 goals and 46 assists for 75 points in 62 games. For his career, that is 165 goals and 233 assists for 398 points in 387 games played. He is elite and continuing to get better.

Pettersson is on a 1200+ point Hall of Fame type of trajectory. There is a good chance that he will go down as one of the best Canucks of all time. They sure do hit on those highly drafted Swedish forwards.
The Canucks are one of the best teams in the NHL these days. Entering this weekend, the Canucks are in first place in the Pacific Division with a record of 38-17-7. Their 83 standings points are the most in the Western Conference and the fourth most in the NHL.
Pettersson is surrounded by other stars in Quinn Hughes, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller amongst others. That core is going to do some damage in the coming years. We’ll see if they can bring home the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
