Connor McDavid is willing the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup
The Edmonton Oilers found themselves down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid is working to rewrite history.
The Edmonton Oilers are looking to do the impossible, something that has only been done once in the history of the Stanley Cup Final, comeback from a 3-0 deficit.
The Edmonton Oilers are doing all that they can, focusing on just the next game in the series, and they are half way to the Stanley Cup—in large part thanks to one player.
Connor McDavid is willing the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup
Connor McDavid had just three assists in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final. The Edmonton Oilers lost all three of those games falling behind in a massive 3-0 deficit. The last two games have been a different story with Edmonton winning Game 4 8-1 and Game 5 5-3.
In those two games, Connor McDavid has registered three goals and five assists, good enough for eight points in two games.
Corey Perry scored the game winning goal midway through the second period for the Edmonton Oilers. While The Panthers would mount somewhat of a comeback, the Oilers would hold on to win in the third.
While Perry scored the goal, Connor McDavid made things happen:
For the Edmonton Oilers to come back, they were going to need Connor McDavid to show up big. This could be history in the making, even if Florida manages to win this series, McDavid has made a real case to be considered for the Conn Smythe Trophy
Through 23 games this post season, McDavid has 42 points, an absolute remarkable accomplishment. Obviously McDavid wants one thing, the Stanley Cup, but it has been exciting to see how he has risen to the occasion thus far.
What comes next:
Now the series heads back to Edmonton for Game 6. The Oilers still find themselves down in the series, but they are one step closer to getting back into things. The Oilers and McDavid need to keep the same moment and intensity going into a tough Game 6 back in Edmonton. While pressure might be on the Panthers, they can still afford to lose one more game.
