Elias Lindholm and 2 other All-Stars that could be traded away soon
The NHL All-Star Game has a few players that could be traded at some point.
The All-Star Weekend is a massive event on the NHL calendar. There are going to be tons of elite players gathered in Toronto to put on a show for the fans.
One player from each team has been selected and then there was an additional fan vote to add in more All-Stars.
The captains, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, and the Hughes brothers are all going to select teams from the pools of players.
There are a few players selected, however, that may finish the season in a different sweater than the one that they wear during the All-Star weekend.
These are the 3 players that made it to the event but could be on a new team in no time:
Elias Lindholm could be a member of a new team before the year is over
Elias Lindholm has been a great player for the Calgary Flames over the years. Now, he is about to see his contract expire when the season is over.
Calgary is not looking like a team that is going to get into the playoffs. They have a chance but they would have to finish strong to end this season. That also includes showing some life before the NHL Trade Deadline approaches.
If they are not close to a playoff spot by then, becoming sellers might be their reality. Lindholm is their top asset that could be moved. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this upcoming season.
A lot of teams would like to add a player like him for their playoff run if he became available. Entering play on Tuesday, he has 8 goals and 22 assists for 30 points in 46 games played. You might even see those totals take a jump if he were on a better offensive team.
Lindholm is Calgary's All-Star representative but he could be moved if the rest of the season turns them into sellers.
Frank Vatrano may be on a new team by the end of the 2023-24 season
Frank Vatrano has increased his value tremendously during the 2023-24 NHL season. He currently has 21 goals and 12 assists for 33 points in 46 games played. It is looking like the Anaheim Ducks' All-Star is going to blow past all of his previous career highs.
Vatrano could be someone who is shopped at the trade deadline. The Anaheim Ducks are one of the worst teams in the NHL and will for sure be sellers.
A player like Vatrano would be a little bit more than a rental too as he has 2024-25 on his contract as well. His cap hit for this year and next is $3.65 million which is low for a guy who is scoring this many goals and making All-Star teams.
There are a lot of teams that would love to add a middle-six forward like this to their group ahead of the playoffs. He could help someone add a lot of depth with his play. It should be fun watching him be an All-Star before that too.
Boone Jenner deserves a better NHL situation going forward
Boone Jenner has the rest of the year, 2024-25, and 2025-26 on his contract with a $3.75 million cap hit. He is 30 years old with a lot of good hockey left.
Jenner is currently the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets and he is also their All-Star representative heading to Toronto.
Seeing him traded is a little bit more of a long shot because of his contract stability but it would be great for him and his career. He is on this messy Blue Jackets team that isn't winning anytime soon with him there in his prime.
The Jackets have added a lot of good young talent but they aren't going to be a Cup contender for a while. They also wasted a year with Pascal Vincent because the Mike Babcock hiring blew up in their face. Jenner can't appreciate any of that either.
It is going to be fun seeing him at the All-Star Game. He deserves it after everything he's been through this year. It would also be cool to see him on another team that he could help win down the stretch.
