The Detroit Red Wings have put together a nice string of wins and now have a bit of a cushion in the standings in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. This season is not over but they are looking good heading into the final month of the season.

Detroit has won its last five games, beating the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, and Seattle Kraken by a combined score of 23-10.

They have everything going for them, including the defense buying in and contributing in all three zones. This team has come together and is putting real heat on the teams above them in the playoff race while winning games tremendously.

Detroit is now 33-20-6 for 72 points and is now fourth in the Atlantic Division. While they could push for the playoff spot outright, they are three points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning and eight points ahead of the New Jersey Devils in the wild card race.

The Detroit Red Wings are in a very good spot with Patrick Kane leading the way

Some individual performances accounted for the team's success over the past week. Alex DeBrincat has seven points (4 goals and three assists), Dylan Larkin (2-3-5), Patrick Kane (3-5-8), and Shayne Gostisbehere (2-3-5) have all been on another level when it comes to offensive production.

The new top line of Larkin-DeBrincat-Kane has this team playing the best it has all season and Kane is on a 9-game points streak.

Goaltender Alex Lyon is 4-1 in his last five, with 12 goals against and a .903 save percentage. He has a record of 18-8-2 with a 2.68 goals-against-average, a .914 save percentage, and two shutouts.

This Detroit Red Wings team is playing the best it has in years right now. The team has not had this much confidence and motivation since the last Stanley Cup run in the 2007-08 season.

Detroit has every forward line on a mission and scoring at will, the defense is playing the best it has all year, and the goaltending has been elite with Lyon between the pipes.

This is a good Red Wings team that is not talked about enough and they are winning without an elite player on the roster. Detroit is clicking on all cylinders and maybe the hottest team in the league right now.
