We had a trade on Friday night between the Seattle Kraken and Colorado Avalanche. The Kraken sent a 2024 fifth-round pick to Colorado in exchange for forward Tomas Tatar

This isn’t a trade that many people saw coming. The Avalanche and Tatar just weren’t as good of a fit as some people thought so they traded him for a draft pick.

Tatar had one goal and nine assists in 27 games with the Avalanche this year. That isn’t the production, especially in terms of goal-scoring, that they expected from him. Colorado still finds themselves right there in the mix for the top of the Central Division.

The Seattle Kraken were responsible for defeating the Colorado Avalanche last year in the playoffs. It was their first-ever series win in their first-ever trip to the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Seattle lost to the Dallas Stars in seven games one round later but they believed that they were officially a good team in the NHL. This season hasn’t gone their way yet though.

The Seattle Kraken are trying to get back to where they were last year

At 10-14-7, they have a lot of ground to make up. They are well below the Wild Card line and sit in sixth place in the Pacific Division. They need to pick it up fast if they are going to make the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

Maybe Tomas Tatar’s change of scenery can help Seattle get back on track. They need him to be the 2022-23 version of himself when he was a member of the New Jersey Devils

In 82 games with them last year, he scored 20 goals and had 28 assists for 48 points. It wasn’t a career year or anything like that but he was very productive for a third-line type of guy. That is what the Avalanche were hoping for but it didn’t work. Maybe it will for Seattle.

It is nice to see a team like the Kraken not give up. It would be easy to mail it in this season but they aren’t. If Tatar can get going along with some of the other Kraken players, maybe they can make some noise.

They called up Shane Wright too so their forward group all of a sudden has some extra skill. They just need to produce.
