The Philadelphia Flyers are going to have some amazing themed nights this season

The Philadelphia Flyers are giving out Gritty night lights during a February game. Two other games will feature a $1 hot dog night, just like Flyers games in years past.

As we get closer to hockey season teams keep announcing their promotional schedules for the upcoming season. The San Diego Gulls, AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, are having a night to honor San Diego native and NBA legend Bill Walton along with a bobblehead giveaway.

The Detroit Red Wings recently announced that the popular Zamboni gravy boat will be returning for a second season. This time it will be based on a fan design!

Monday saw the Philadelphia Flyers release their promotional schedule for the 2024-2025 season. One of the immediate ones that stood out was “Gritty Night Light” night. Gritty is loveable to Philly sports fans, but a nightmare to other team, which makes it ironic that he is getting his own night light.

They haven’t released a picture of it yet, but we’re willing to bet it has light-up eyes. It’s sure to be one of the season’s most unique and hottest giveaways.

You can get one by going to the Flyers' February 22nd game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Another promotion seems to aim at the Flyers baseball-playing neighbors. The Flyers will have not one, but two “Dollar Dog Night” games.

The Phillies famously had a similar promotion before ending it this past season. The team cited unruly fan behavior, such as fans throwing low-priced hot dogs and excessive crowds in areas of the ballpark as part of the decision.

Phillies fans weren’t happy. Petitions were started, fans held their Dollar Dog night protests in the stadium parking lot, and even Senator Bob Casey spoke out against a previous move to cut back on the promotion.

Where the Phillies saw ensuing controversy the Flyers saw an opportunity. Fans at the November 18th game against the Colorado Avalanche and the January 13th game against the Florida Panthers can enjoy dollar hotdogs.

No word yet on whether Gritty will shoot hotdogs into the crowd from a hotdog cannon like the Philly Phanatic. Maybe the Phanatic will let Gritty borrow his own so it gets some use during the baseball offseason.

Maybe the Phanatic will even join in on the fun, joining Gritty as a form of silent protest in favor of dollar hot dogs for everyone.

Just when we thought the Flyers were trying to troll the Phillies, we looked back at last year’s promotional schedule and saw that the Phillies also had two dollar dog nights this past season.

Now if only more NHL teams and arenas would watch on and bring back our right to have dollar hot dogs.
