Two NHL stars pulled off "The Michigan" on Saturday night
The NHL is in good hands with all of these super skilled players.
The Chicago Blackhawks took on the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night and lost the game 7-5 at Enterprise Center. It was once again a game that the Hawks were winning by multiple goals but ended up losing.
Nick Foligno scored a short-handed goal early in the third period to make it 5-2 Blackhawks. It all went downhill from there as the Blues scored five unanswered goals to win the game.
The big story of the game, however, was the goal that Connor Bedard scored in the first period. He scored the “Michigan goal” for the first time in his career.
To score the Michigan goal, you have to get the puck on the blade of your stick lacrosse style and throw it into the net above the goalie’s shoulder. It is a highly skilled play that only a few could pull off in the NHL.
The Michigan goal was scored twice by two superstars on Saturday night
Many players have tried this and failed but Bedard pulled it off before reaching Christmas of his rookie year. It is truly amazing to watch him play hockey but this play was out of this world.
Whenever a player scores the Michigan goal, the whole NHL world stops to check it out. How crazy would it be if two were scored in one night?
Trevor Zegras, who became known for being able to pull off this move over the last couple of years, scored one himself later in the night. His Michigan goal came in a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken.
You have to wonder if Zegras saw Bedard do it and get inspired. The Ducks game did happen later in the night so that very well could be the case.
It is especially exciting for Zegras because he just came back from a long time away due to injury. He is relied on for offense and the Ducks have missed him. Hopefully, he is back to his old tricks and can stay healthy for a while.
How great is it to have stars like Connor Bedard and Trevor Zegras? These two are incredibly skilled and will be entertaining to watch for a long time. We can only hope that they each score the classic Michigan goal a couple of more times in their careers.
