The World Junior Championships have been incredible once again. The teams that participated put on a show and set up a great finish.
On Thursday, there were two semi-final games. They didn't go the way of Finland or Czechia as The United States and Sweden will play in the Gold Medal Game.
Finland and Czechia were allowed to play in the Bronze Medal Game on Friday and it was one of the craziest games you'll ever watch.
New Jersey Devils prospect Lenni Hameenaho scored two unanswered goals in the second period which gave Finland a 5-2 lead. They were dominating play and looked like they'd cruise to a Bronze.
Czechia, being the gritty hockey country that they are, came back to tie the game. The reigning Silver Medal winners never gave up. They scored three unanswered goals to tie the game at five.
Czechia did the unthinkabale against Finland in the Bronze Medal Game
15 seconds after tying it, the Czechs took the lead in an unbelievable turn of events. They added two empty net goals and won 8-5. It was one of the most miraculous turnarounds we've seen in a long time.
This is a devastating ending for Finland who had a very interesting tournament. Although it will be painful to think about, nobody even thought they'd advance past the quarterfinal when they were 0-2 to start the tournament. They had a very good run.
As for Czechia, they have now medaled in back-to-back years for the first time since winning back-to-back Gold in the early 2000s.
They have always been a good hockey country but it has been a while since they've dominated in the World Juniors as they have the last two years. They were never out of a game.
Hockey fans will remember this one for a long time. A team rarely gets that outplayed at even strength and ends up winning the game. Czechia was as resilient as any team in the history of the tournament.
Both teams have players with very bright and potential NHL futures. It will be fun to see who goes on to have success.
The Czechs will have this incredible memory for a long time and they deserve it. Hopefully, their success will continue for a long time.
